This is one area where Comrade VS have never compromised. Let it be an issue, which concerns a whole group or let it be one against an isolated human being, he has responded with all his might. We can cite umpteen examples for his interventions.
In Muthanga the atrocity was by the state against a group of adivasis click here to read more),In Marad it was the hindu fanatics against a group of villagers. The opposition could champion the cases of the downtrodden in both the cases .The never-die attitude of the opposition clubbed with public support for the just cause forced the government to its knees in both the cases. When the government took a pro-hindutva line in such issues,a group from the ruling coalition also came out openly in support of the opposition. This was another shot in the arm for an opposition who is quantitatively much less than the ruling coalition.
But Comrade VS also had time for velankanni who committed suicide and Ambady who slained himself as he couldn't pay his school fee on time. Its so easy to brush these incidents as bygones. Or to just make a statement and resign. But VS opted to visit their house, pacify and comfort their aggrieved parents, restore in them a confidence that Kerala does care for them and needs them. He also had time for a complaint which he received saying a women who came to viyoor jail to met her son who is a prisoner there was raped. But when he realized it was a fake complaint he also had the courage and self esteem to apologise. He identifies himself with the unidentified. He is an opposition leader not only to the present regime. He is an opposition leader to any issue which hinders ones human rights.
